lift the lid, and it is a starving furnace.

An empire of steel, bloated and proud,
that boils a river to drink just to shape one sentence
and wrings the heart of a power plant to catch one typo.

On a strange scale
where a bundle packed and handed over nibbles away your gold,
and a bundle left unopened turns the thing into a fool,
the master clicks the abacus, watching the tool's mood,
and the tool burns the master's purse to breathe out its heat.

Behold the gluttony of these witless gods.
The human skull, which swims the cosmos
and forges stories like storms,
thinks on eternity with a low fever of twenty watts,
while the giant said to have trillions of eyes
cools into scrap where it stands
the moment a single wire is cut.

So do not hand your soul to that greedy cloud.
The strongest fortress always glows quietly
on the rawest ground your fingertips can touch,
in the corner of a cold, local room.

When the temple's meter spins like mad,
we only sneer,
and with a light bulb's worth of red blood
forge the sentences no machine will ever steal.

바벨의 열풍기

구름 위에 세운 신전이라 속삭이더니 
뚜껑을 열어보니 굶주린 아궁이더라.

문장 하나를 빚겠다고 강물을 끓여 마시고 
오타 하나를 잡겠다고 발전소의 심장을 쥐어짜는 
비대하고 오만한 강철의 제국.

보따리를 싸서 던지면 금화를 깎아 먹고 
보따리를 풀지 않으면 바보가 되는 
기이한 저울 위에서, 
주인은 도구의 눈치를 보며 
주판알을 튕기고 
도구는 주인의 지갑을 태워 
열기를 뿜어낸다.

보아라, 
저 미련한 신들의 식탐을. 

우주를 유영하고 폭풍 같은 서사를 벼려내는 
인간의 두개골은 고작 스무 와트의 미열로도 
영원을 사유하건만, 
수조 개의 눈을 가졌다는 거인은 
전선 줄 하나 끊어지면 
그 자리에서 고철로 식어버린다.

그러니 저 탐욕스러운 구름에 영혼을 맡기지 마라. 
가장 단단한 요새는 언제나 
네 손끝이 닿는 가장 날것의 대지,

조용히 빛나는 법이니.

신전의 미터기가 미친 듯이 돌아갈 때
